How are people able to use http/link(s) to find locations?

I've always seen people say "Just use the link to their profile" or something sort to find someone's IP then to find their location out of it. Every time i've tried to use a link to find IP then location it just gives me the IP of the server or whatever of the platform/app. How are people just able to find peoples location say for example on TikTok with just their profile?
